Director of Leadership Development

Leadership Development in the East-Central Africa Division (ECD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is anchored in the conviction that true leadership begins with Scripture and is strengthened by a clear sense of mission. We believe that every leader is called to serve with humility, courage, and spiritual maturity, reflecting the character of Christ in all aspects of ministry. Our Leadership Development efforts aim to nurture men and women who are firmly rooted in the Word of God and committed to advancing the gospel across our diverse region.

In a rapidly changing world, the Church needs leaders who can combine biblical conviction with practical skill, spiritual depth with strategic action, and compassion with excellence. The Leadership Development Department supports pastors, administrators, departmental directors, and lay leaders as they grow in competence, character, and commitment.

Our Vision

To develop Christ-centered leaders who are deeply grounded in the Bible, spiritually mature, and fully dedicated to fulfilling the mission of the Church with clarity, integrity, and purpose.

Core values

  • Biblical foundation: Scripture is the guide and authority for all leadership formation.

  • Servant Leadership: Leaders model Christ’s humility in service.

  • Mission focus: Every initiative is aligned with the global mission of the Church.

  • Collaboration: Growing leaders through teamwork, mentoring, and shared learning.

Key initiatives

  • Leadership Training Seminars: Regular workshops that strengthen spiritual leadership, administration, and strategic planning.

  • Mentorship and coaching: Pairing emerging leaders with experienced mentors to encourage growth, accountability, and biblical leadership principles.

  • Spiritual Formation Retreats: Creating space for leaders to deepen their walk with God through prayer, reflection, and study of Scripture.

  • Peer Learning Networks: Encouraging collaboration and knowledge-sharing among leaders within and across unions and conferences.

  • Youth Leadership Development: Preparing young people to lead with confidence, biblical conviction, and a heart for mission.

Impact

Through these initiatives, ECD is cultivating leaders who guide with vision, strengthen church unity, and inspire members toward active discipleship. Grounded in Scripture and focused on mission, these leaders play a vital role in expanding the reach of the gospel and building healthy, vibrant church communities.
